Helping Adult Children And Aging Parents
One question we’re often asked by clients who are adult children of aging parents is how they can best help their parents as they are managing the responsibilities of their own lives.
Our answer is that we work with adult children on a regular basis to help them and their aging parents create Estate Plans that are realistic and manageable in order to address the realities they, and their parents, are facing. This thorough planning begins with gathering financial and personal information and takes into account their respective and unique realities, including housing, special needs, career and personal responsibilities, and lifetime wishes.
During this process, we help clients evaluate options for at home care, assisted living, and skilled nursing home care, as well as private and public funding to cover the costs associated with this care. We then use wills, trusts, advanced directives, personal service agreements, and other necessary tools to ensure that the planning goals are achieved and our clients have peace of mind.
One of the most important aspects of these holistic Elder Law services for the adult children and aging parents is clear communication to ensure that our clients’ wishes are understood and respected by all parties involved; and that these wishes are addressed in all relevant Estate Planning documents.
